Hello!

I’m Rob Kroenert, a photographer based in Montana who left my business job to travel and take photos.  A while back I spent a year traveling around the world, and recently I spent a year photographing Yellowstone National Park in all four seasons.  Now I live right next to Yellowstone and love trying to photograph wildlife.

This site gives me an opportunity to share some of my photos and travel stories.  I’m also on Instagram and Twitter.  If you’d like to buy one of my photos, please let me know by leaving a message at the bottom of this page.

All of the photos on this site are © 2006-2024 Rob Kroenert and cannot be used without my permission.

Thanks for taking a look!

  1. Hi Robert, I am really interested in buying a copy of one of your elephant pictures I have come across, titled ‘Elephant at Angkor’. It would be great if you could get in touch if this is possible. Thanks, Rachel

    1. Dear Rob,

I’d like to use a photo of yours of Havasu Falls in a scientific publication (called Transactions on Graphics) to showcase a photo editing app I have developed. Would you kindly give permission for this non-commericial use?

      Cheers,

  2. Hello – I just looked through your Sapa galleries and it is fantastic. I will be traveling to Sapa in two weeks and if you see this, hoping you could offer some suggestions. it will be right around the rice harvest. So getting this in the rice terraces is a no briner. Also the local tribes and their colorful clothing. Then the local markets. But other than that, what else can you think of if you have been there?

Hope to hear from you, thanks

    1. Thanks Courtney! Sounds like your timing is great, and as far as I know you already listed the top photo highlights. There’s a new gondola that goes to the top of a nearby mountain (Fansipan), you might want to try that too.

  3. Thanks as well. Well the timing for the harvest is good. However there has been flooding and landslides in Lao Cai due to one typhoon and another one is hitting tomorrow with 100km winds. One person died in Sapa. I will certainly check out the gondola if I get some time. I was going to spend about a week there, but thinking that is a bit much from a photo standpoint? What do you think? Also, did you use a guide to get around? Could you recommend someone if you did?

    Thanks again!

    1. Ah, sorry to hear the weather might be problematic! Yes, a week might be a little too much in terms of photos, but Sapa is a beautiful place and you could easily be happy there for a week. My guides in Sapa were a group of women I met when I first visited 10 years ago and have kept in touch with. Most of them work as “official” tour guides too, and if you’d like I can connect you, just let me know.

  4. Sure if you could send me their contact info, that would be great. Did the woman take you to good spots jut for photography, or kind of take you to all the popular places in general?

Any tips while there? I posted some questions on-line about visiting the area and a few have said that the locals are less receptive (to taking photos of them) as they see so many tourists with big DSLRs like I have and will be shooting with. Is this accurate?

    Thanks mate!

    1. Sure, the Hmong woman in Sapa who works as a guide is Chu, and you can message her on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/chuin.sapa

Chu knows a lot of great hikes, but she doesn’t specialize in photo tours.

My recommendation in terms of taking photos of the locals is to talk with them first and get to know them before you ask if it’s OK to take some shots. Have a great trip!

  5. Hello Rob,
I am looking to have a custom tile mural made for my shower. I LOVE grizzlies and went to Katmai last year and was really hoping to use one of my own pictures. Well, they all suck compared to yours. Could I use one of yours? If so, please tell me what I need to do. I don’t know which one – they are all great. One of the ones from Katmai. Thanks for any info! Erin

  8. Dear Rob,

I am impressed with your photos of the National Parks! Thank you for sharing them. I teach literature and writing classes for high school students online and I begin each class session with a photograph of a beautiful landscape and a piece of classical music. Would you allow me to use some of your photos to post for that purpose? Of course, I would attribute them to you. If you would prefer I didn’t use them, I certainly understand. I am enjoying your images either way.

    Thank you for your consideration,

  12. I’ve seen a lot of nature photography, but find I am completely drawn to your photographic style!! My interest was further heightened after reading you have ties to the Bay Area. I lived in Mountain View for many years and am still very close. I am a wolf follower and love your shots of the Wapitis. I just returned from Yellowstone two weeks ago, and your photos of them take me back to that special trip. Thank you for sharing your images. They really touch a chord for me!

  15. I just returned from a wolf watching trip in mid-late October. Would to purchase one of the photos you posted on your on-line gallery. The one with 4 Wapitis, the two in the center mouthing each other.

What are sizes and pricing? What kind of paper / printing? Thank you.

By the way, did you used to live in Silicon Valley!

    Thanks.
